SEVEN PLANETS: EXPLORER

Terrific Instrumental Stoner

The first thing that came to mind for me upon hearing this is that Seven Planets are clearly influenced by The Bakerton Group (which was two brilliant albums worth of instrumental Clutch, in case you were unaware).  Out of eight good tunes on this album, for me there are three standouts, in strong consideration for my first triannual top ten list of the new year:

The lead-off track:

The track that will likely make you want to get this album:

And they were smart enough to save one of the best tracks for the album's closer:

The title track "Explorer" is my fourth favorite.

Explorer is Seven Planets' third album.  They are from West Virginia, and are:

Leonard Hanks: Guitar
Ben Pitt: Drums
James Way: Guitar
Mike Williams: Bass

"Explorer" is published by Small Stone Records, which has been bringing us truly classic stoner rock for twenty five years now.

The album art is by Alexander von Wieding.
