Friday Rewind - Motorhead's Ace of Spades

ACE OF SPADES
MOTORHEAD

Today we rewind back to 1980 and listen fondly to Motorhead's classic "Ace of Spades" album. The sure fire single "Ace of Spades" immediately became a Gold Medal record during this era of the band and is still one of their most recognizable tracks. As a fan of Lemmy's original band Hawkwind, I have been a stickler for his more psychedelic sounds and less about the snaggle tooth ruckus of Motorhead. But when their most recent album "Bad Magic" dropped I was so impressed that I started to look further into their catalogue and pulled this gem out. (My favorite tracks on "ACE OF SPADES" are "Ace of Spades" and "The Chase is Better than the Catch".)

Unfortunately time hasn't been kind to the health of Motorhead front man, Lemmy. Recently the Kilmister had to cut a show short, three songs in. I honestly think the new album, "Bad Magic",  they are touring around is sensational and sonically powerful. For a band that's been around since the seventies and is essentially fully intact they have only grown louder and much heavier with each album.

Classics like "Ace of Spades" don't come around very often and this is definitely one you should have in your collection. As always the motto of this Friday Rewind is to remind you that it's never too late to delve into the early works of a band or musician especially when they are still living and breathing on the planet. We hope the best for Lemmy and the band.
